The project involved the expansion of a production facility to convert an existing plant into a multi-purpose facility. For this purpose, a new, steam-sterilizable filtration system with hollow fiber modules was installed.
Hollow fiber filters are widely used for filtration of liquid pharmaceuticals. Steam sterilization of the filters requires suitable equipment that is operated properly. When saturated steam undergoes abrupt expansion at high flow rates, some overheating may occur. The high temperatures of the steam can cause damage to polymers and elastomers. Overheating can be avoided by gradually reducing the steam pressure while observing the differential pressure across the diaphragm.
In this project, TTSol has developed a robust sterilization process taking into account all factors such as steam temperature, differential pressure condensate return and cooling cycles.
Due to the complicated integration of the filtration plant into an existing process plant, the client decided to realize the project with a design company experienced in the field of product filtration. TTSol was entrusted with the project as a demonstrably competent partner.
